Still Alive (The Song from Portal)

Posted by Jarrett on December 23rd, 2008

I made a cover of Still Alive about a year ago and put it on YouTube. It’s gotten over 150,000 views, which isn’t too shabby, I think. Here’s the original description:

So, here’s a little cover arrangement I made of “Still Alive”, the ending credits song from the excellent video game Portal.

The song was written by my personal hero, Jonathan Coulton. Explore his music. It’s wonderful.

I performed all nine tracks (on the keyboard), and I kept pretty close to the original arrangement.

The encoding on this movie is a much, much higher quality than the YouTube version.

Help yourself to the piano sheet music (PDF), or the mp3, or the MIDI file of this performance.

Fantastic – thanks for sharing the sheet music and other goodies too!

^_^

BTW – you can really tell how much weight you’ve been dropping looking at last year to this year – keep up the good work!

This sounds so much better than your version on YouTube!
And that one is great.
This one sounds just spectacular, it’s awesome!

Keep up the good work :D

Great work… I love the arrangement.

Also, really appreciate you taking the time to do the sheet music. It is my new mission to learn… it may be a while, but if I get close, I’ll post it.

Have a great 2009!!

I’d really like to see you do your own arrangement — one track, live. Your medley had some really original takes on the songs, and they sounded great.

Wow! You have put a huge smile on my face! I put your MIDI into my Kawai, and it plays perfectly. And I can mute the piano track, so once I learn the notes from your score I’ll be able to play along. I’m so happy! Thank you!

Thank you so much for that! But the midi version isn’t the same as the piano sheet, is it?
Would be great if you could provide a midi version of the piano sheet, so people could learn it using synthesia :-)

Great midi! I’ve been looking everywhere for one that sounds just like the actual song, and I just found it :D

Many Thanks for this, I used the midi in a cover version I done with the original vocals just for fun. I have credited you for the midi when people ask :)
